Salle Working Party

Salle Working Bee and Party!

Come along and help! We’re trying to make the Salle more welcoming and nicer to train in.

In the past these have been fun and productive events. I have particularly fond memories of the very full dessert table last time! It’s bring a plate (if you feel like it), and I’ll be providing pizza and soft drink (and paint. So much paint.)

How you can help:
– painting the bathroom
– tidying the space
– cleaning loaner gear
– organising the kitchen
– putting up mirrors
– laying floor
– painting floor
– fixing changeroom/shower
– transporting, people and materials
– assisting everyone as needed
– supplying tools, or a plate of food.

Logistics:
Tidy the place
Do as many of the tasks as we can
then consume pizza & fizzy drinks
and finally party until we’re finished 🙂

Remember to wear painting clothes!

Historical Fencing Training Camp

Historical Fencing Camp, near Melbourne 6-8 May 2022

Come and enjoy a weekend of fencing training and camaraderie in the Australian bush.

We have an awesome bunch of instructors booked for the camp. They will be able to help you improve your fencing no matter what style you already practice.

The camp will include: technical, tactical, and physical training for fencing, lots of sparring, plus dorm or tent accommodation for all and food is included too.

We are seeking a team to assist with catering the event (3-5 hr time commitment). Can you help?

This a not for profit event. Instructors and catering team attend for free and if there is money left over it will be used to pay event team travel costs. Any remainder will be donated to HFA.

$120/110 full/conc booked before midnight 24/4/22
$140/130 afterward
$200 Solidarity ticket
$70 under 16 (there will be no formal activities for children)

Achille Longsword Tournaments 2022

Have you been learning fencing for a while?

Now is the time to start competing – there will be two tournaments a Women’s Tournament and an Open entry Tournament.

These tournaments will be friendly and safe. Fight or Watch you will be welcomed, we even have swords and some protective equipment to borrow.

Details:
Saturday 26th February 2022

Fine weather venue: Johnson Park, Basting St, Northcote
Wet weather venue: The Melbourne Salle, Preston


Schedule:
11 am – Venue opens for rego and warmups
11:30 – Registrations close
12 pm – Tournaments begin
4 pm – Finals
5 pm – Social event

NB We are using women as a shorthand for not a cis man – trans folks, enbies etc all welcome 🙂

Swords must meet weight, flex, and handling requirements – some swords will be available to borrow on the day as well. All other rules – to be advised.

Rules summary:
1. Competitors are responsible for awarding points against themselves. They do this by calling “GOOD” when struck by a valid blow

2. The Referee is not responsible for awarding points but they are still responsible for awarding penalties and sanctions, and maintaining safety.

3. Max blade length 106 cm, max handle length 37 cm.

4. All other rules to be advised at a later date.

Cost:
$15 booked before midnight 12/2/22
$25 booked before midnight 20/2/22
$30 afterward
Staff and Spectators free.
