Sometimes starting out can seem overwhelming. Hopefully this guide helps!
Book into a free trial class, or a come and try day. Free trial classes are available in the first week of each month; while come and try days are only once a quarter.
Come to your free class! Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and flat soled shoes. Bring a water bottle. Your first class is always an experience – usually harder than you imagined, as you realise there’s a lot more to swordfighting than you’d thought. That’s ok, everyone feels this way. Hopefully you had fun too!
Classes start with a warmup, followed by solo drills, and finally pair drills.
Decide if you’d like to continue classes. You can attend casual classes for $30 per evening/day. Once you’re ready, join the school as a member and choose a monthly class bundle for a more economical option.
After a few months, students usually start building their own kit. People often start with purchasing a mask, then gloves and a sword, gradually moving on to a full class, sparring, or tournament kit depending on their interests. We can help you with finding gear and suppliers, too.
Enjoy! Attend classes, social events, and tournaments, and revel in the looks on people’s faces when you tell them your weekend plans involve swordfighting.
