Sometimes starting out can seem overwhelming. Hopefully this guide helps!
Step 1
Book into a free trial class. Free trial classes are usually available in the first week of every second month and sometimes more often. If you can’t wait that long, there is also always the option of just coming along to watch anytime, or even jumping straight in and paying for a class.
Step 2
Come to a class! Most classes are in Preston but some are in Box Hill. Use the directions on the contact page to find us.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and flat soled shoes. Bring a water bottle.
Classes start with a warmup, followed by solo drills, and finally pair drills & sparring games. Your first class is always an experience – usually harder than you imagined, as you realise there’s a lot more to swordfighting than you’d thought. That’s ok, everyone feels this way. Hopefully you had fun too!
Step 3
Decide if you’d like to continue classes. You can attend casual classes for $35 per class or choose any of the various more economical options outlined on the fees page. The Newcomer Deal is particularly good value!
Step 4
After a few months, students usually start building their own kit. People often start with purchasing a mask, then gloves and a sword, gradually moving on to a full class, sparring, or tournament kit depending on their interests. We can help you with finding gear and suppliers, too.
Step 5
Enjoy! Attend classes, social events, and tournaments, and revel in the looks on people’s faces when you tell them your weekend plans involve swordfighting.
