Marozzo Cup 2025

The Marozzo Cup is an epic test of Historical Martial Arts prowess.

Three core tournaments are included in the battle for the Cup itself: Longsword, Sword & Buckler, & Sidesword. These tournaments will be run concurrently, swapping weapons and fencing with the same opponent.

In addition there are stand alone tournaments in: Single Rapier, Rapier & Dagger, and Spear.

Saturday 12 July
9 am – Venue opens for rego and warmups
9:30 am – Spear Tournament begins
11 am – Main Tournaments (Longsword, S&B, Sidesword) begin
2 pm – Free Spear Workshop
4:30 pm – Finals
6 pm – Social event

Sunday 13 July
9 am – Venue opens for rego and warmups
9:30 am – Single Rapier tournament begins
12:30 pm – Lunch Break
1 pm – Rapier & Dagger Tournament begins
4 pm – Finals
5 pm – Social event

We are looking for volunteers to referee the tournament as well as run the table and organise the task allocations on the day. Contact Gindi via fb, discord,or email

How will the three core tournaments work?
Progression to eliminations in the Longsword, Sword & Buckler, and Sidesword tournaments will be based on your performance across all three weapons.
Each match will be fought as three sub matches, first Longsword, then Sword & Buckler, then Sidesword.

Will the results be submitted to HEMA Ratings?
Yes. Individual matches from all the tournaments will be submitted to HEMA Ratings.

Will there be swords to borrow?
Yes there will be loaner Longswords, Sideswords, Bucklers, Rapiers, Daggers, and Spears to borrow if needed. There will also be some limited loaner PPE – with priority going to newer fencers. If you need to borrow something we encourage you to organise it with your home club in advance.

S2000 Sidesword Comp 2025

Join us for a sidesword comp with a difference!

Super light and flexy sideswords will be provided for faster, safer, minimal gear fencing.

Compete in one of 2 categories:
Seniors (16+) or U18

Each category will fight for a medal in the open and within your own height division.

Results will not be submitted to HEMA Ratings

Gear Requirements:
Mask, 350 N Jacket (with bladecatcher or gorget), and Gloves (lightly padded)

French Fencing With Chris Slee

Chris Slee is a swordsman, historian and franco-phone with an academic background in Renaissance thought, history, literature and languages. He has published numerous translations of French fencing treatises. and runs Long Edge Fencing in Brisbane, dedicated to historical French fencing.

I’m excited to have him teach this workshop weekend because he has a strong academic streak while also teaching practical fencing that everyone can benefit from.

Casual Comps Rapier & Longsword

7 – 9:30 pm, Thursday 19 December

Get there whenever you can as the format is extremely flexible. Everyone should get plenty of safe, fun fencing, and if you are missing some gear, I will bring plenty of loaner bits and bobs.

Rapier options are: Single Rapier, Rapier & Dagger, Rapier & Cloak, Rapier & Buckler.

Longsword will be restricted intensity to reflect the more social nature of the evening.

Join us for dumplings afterwards!

Will be self-called rather than judged and won’t be submitted to HEMA Ratings

No need to book, just show up.

SHF Subscribers: Free
Others: $15 Gear Requirements:
Mask, Jacket, Gloves (rapier), thickly padded gloves or better (longsword), Elbow protectors, Knee protectors, Gorget

Workshops

How does Capoferro really want us to fence with the rapier?
This workshop will expose the true art we should use with this weapon, as taught by Habibi Favilla.

Fiore’s Spear: Direct and to the Point.
This method for using the spear covers the most important ideas and situations in and out of armour with a spear. Tom Lanyon will show us the elegant simplcity of Fiore’s approach.

Will there be swords to borrow?
Yes there will be loaner Longswords, Sideswords, Bucklers, and Rapiers, to borrow if needed. Daggers will be provided for everyone for the Dagger torunament. There will also be some limited loaner PPE – with priority going to newer fencers. If you need to borrow something we encourage you to organise it with your home club in advance.
