Ton Puey Workshops

The School of Historical Fencing, in collaboration with HERA, is pleased to present a weekend of classes with Ton Puey  in Melbourne.

Saturday 1st of September, 10:30 am – 4:30 pm
Sunday 2nd of September, 10 am – 4 pm

About Ton
Ton Puey grew up studying karate shotokan in his childhood and teenage years, before getting into sports fencing. He got historical in 2002, and around 2004 began researching and teaching the Iberian school of Verdadera Destreza. Ton has taught workshops in Spain, Portugal, France, Netherlands, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Russia and USA. Ton is a founding member of Asociación Galega de Esgrima Antigua -Galician Association of Historical Fencing- and a honorary member of the Spanish Federation of Historical Fencing. Ton also belongs to the editorial board of AGEA publishing, and to the European Association Hemac.

Sword & Buckler Manciolino Style

Workshop with Richard Cullinan of Stoccata Sydney on the use of the Sword & Buckler including: attacks, defences, counters, fencing, fighting, redoubles, feints, chases, escapes, provocations, revenge, true love, and footwork.

All of the above can be found within Manciolino’s first assault which is a historical form meant to be practiced both with an opponent and solo. By the end of the weekend participants should been exposed to all of the parts of the first assault and able to put it together as a complete form in their own time in the weeks following.

About Richard
Richard Cullinan first formally studied fencing in 1997 under Peter Linich, Maestro di Scherma. Building on this classical foundation, he branched out into historical fencing systems, and is recognised internationally for his research in Bolognese swordsmanship. He has also qualified as an Instructor at Arms in Classical Italian School fencing through the Fencing Masters Certificate program at Sonoma State University, California USA.

About Guy

Guy is one the preeminent figures of Historical European Martial Arts, and has conducted research into most of the recorded swordsmanship styles between 1300 and 1800, and is a specialist in the works of Fiore dei Liberi, Phillipo Vadi, Ridolfo Capoferro, the anonymous I.33, and Domenico Angelo. He has authored numerous books on these topics and runs the School of European Swordsmanship, which he founded in 2001.

Swordfighting Class

Ever wanted to try historical martial arts, but weren’t sure which kind you were interested in, or even what kinds are out there? We’re here to help! On November 19th, a variety of classes will be delivered by by all the schools who train at the Melbourne Salle.

This is a great opportunity to try a class on any of the systems taght at the Salle including: broadsword, longsword, rapier, messer, greatsword, sword & shield, dagger, spear, and more.

Come, have a look, grab something from the BBQ for lunch, and even participate in a class (or five!) and see what we’re all about.

Destreza Workshop – Iberian fencing


Two day workshop on the system of swordsmanship known as Destreza – the True Skill – the system of fencing practiced on the Iberian peninsula from the 16th to the 18th C.

Taught by Sean Reichman from the Brisbane School of Iberian Swordsmanship.
